It’s Friday the 13^th!

BREAKING NEWS – N. Korea rocket launch failed. It seems like it's not a lucky day for them.

Unluckily it's the day you might not feel so lucky. Friday the 13th has a negative notion that everything becomes unfavorable the entire day. And if you are planning something, you might want to consider rescheduling it. Especially if you are in the Philippines, where the state is trembling and praying with North Korea opt a rocket launch. You might what to take second thoughts travelling.

Pyongyang, North Korea with its celebration of independence is launching a low Earth orbit called Bright Shining Star 3. The said satellite is designed to monitor "weather, natural disaster and agricultural patterns". This could either boost North Korea or potentially ignite friction to neighboring country if the launch happens to pass the territories like Japan, but for the Philippines, we might not fight back.

"Getting hit by rocket debris like hitting lotto jackpot," said Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo. Could knowing this make us feel sounder? Is there any chance that an extremely lucky Filipino is struck by falling debris from the heavenly skies on a Friday the 13th? As our government would say, "Let's just hope and pray."

Over the past years of the 20th century, we have all been yearning for the manifestation of our sci-fi tailored living, as they say that the future is now.

What else could be more disappointing, a virtual assistant on a smartphone, a glass tablet for playing Angry Birds and other non-futuristic stuff. No time machine, no flying cars; but wait look what we have here – Google Glasses.

On April 4, 2012, the search giant Google launched a Google+ page called Project Glass. The team is building a new kind of technology that allows user to “explore and share” into a seamless experience of the so called Google Glasses.

A HUD (Heads-Up Display) that will incorporate augmented reality, voice input, maps, social networking and other cool stuff to run on an Android OS. To keep you more excited, here’s a first-person-point-of-view video, to give you an idea of how this works. Watch it and be mesmerized on how this will change our way of life. Hallow Holy Week

“Semana Santa o Fiesta?”

I have always wondered why our town Balayan, Batangas seem like celebrating a feast during Holy Week. People are all wearing new clothes, especially the teenagers.

The streets are full of vendors selling religious items, curtains, calamay (rice cake), balloons, t-shirts, toys, fake jewelries and a lot of bizarre things, as if this is not the time of the year where you should repent and contemplate on the things you have done.

It’s like a tradition (or sort of) here in the province to look good and wear your new clothes during special occasion. The only time where people from the barrio get a chance to go to the poblacion is only through these special events. It’s when you get a chance to tour the entire poblacion during the parade at night; together with others in an ocean of swarming devotees holding a paper-held candle.

It’s a devotion to most but certainly a good choice of ally by to teens to meet and greet their friends during vacation. But how much of time do we really spent praying and reflecting to ourselves? Have we forgotten the true essence of Holy Week? Is it really about having a very long weekend? I think over the past few years people has slowly become hallow souls and that Holy Week is just another red-colored-number on the calendar. Please prove me I am wrong.
